Regardless of your role, it’s imperative that you touch base with your mentor about any patient before admitting or discharging them.

First shift with each mentor:

During your first shift with any mentor, you will follow a “see one, present one” model.  You can go see a patient but need to come straight back and present the patient in a standard fashion to your mentor. This will allow them to give you timely and direct feedback. After this initial presentation, your mentor may either have you write the note for their review, or will write the note themselves.

Subsequent shifts:

For any student:

During any subsequent shifts you have with each  mentor you will continue to follow the above format "see one present one"

For any resident or graduated PA:

During any subsequent shifts you have with each mentor they will either request you continue to follow the above "see one present one" model, or may have you step into a more advanced role of independently starting your own work ups.
